Our Vineyard Partners

The wines we make are only as good as the fruit we source. Over the years, we've built relationships with growers across Mendocino and the North Coast who share our commitment to traditional, thoughtful farming. These are the vineyards behind our wines.

Casa Verde — Redwood Valley

Planted in 1942 on bench land near the headwaters of the Russian River, Casa Verde is a living piece of California viticultural history. The alluvial Yokayo soils here run deep and well-drained, studded with the distinctive green and red river rocks that give the vineyard its name.

Peter Chevalier farms these 75+ year old vines the way they've always been farmed: head pruned, dry farmed, and cross cultivated. The vineyard is a classic field blend — mostly Carignan, with Grenache and a thread of French Colombard woven through. Low yields produce wines that are medium bodied but intense, with the acidity and minerality that only old vines and old soils can deliver.

Broken Leg — Anderson Valley

The name comes from a literal mishap: owner Steve Williams broke his leg on these steep slopes while the vineyard was being planted in the 1980s. The story makes sense the moment you see the site — tucked into a bowl near the top of the coastal ridge in the Deep End of Anderson Valley, the grade rivals Côte-Rôtie, and the climate isn't far off either. The surrounding redwoods, though, give it a look you won't find anywhere in the Rhône.

Planted to the Shiraz and Durell clones, Broken Leg is home to some of the northernmost Syrah in California. The thirty-year-old vines yield wines that are agile but intense, with a brambly, savory character that speaks clearly of place.

Cole Ranch — Mendocino County

John Cole planted this vineyard in 1972, and it remains the only vineyard along Boonville Road — and the heart of the smallest AVA in America. We began sourcing Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling from the original plantings here in 2018.

The site recently entered a new chapter under Mike Lucia of Rootdown Wines, who is reinvigorating the AVA with new plantings drawn from Jura and Savoie. We're thrilled to continue working with this singular place.

Alder Springs — Northern Mendocino

West of Laytonville, Alder Springs spreads across 140 acres of steep vineyard planted between 1,700 and 2,700 feet of elevation. Warm days, cool nights, and low-vigor sandstone soils make for a long growing season and vines that reach deep — the kind of conditions that translate directly into minerality in the glass.

In 2021 we began sourcing Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Cabernet Franc from this remarkable site.
